WESTERN CAPE – With the focus on drugs and illegal firearms, members attached to Nyanga police recovered various stolen items after they stopped and searched a Polo Vivo with two occupants during a vehicle check point on the corners of Muller and Klipfontein Roads. One of the suspects tried to evade the arrest and fired shots at the police, but he was apprehended, together with his accomplice. During the shooting incident, a female was injured and admitted to hospital.
The stolen property recovered includes four plasma television sets, four tablets, a laptop, four remote controls, two DSTV remote controls, orange camping bag and clothing items. Four foreign passports were also found in one of the traveling bags.
It was later established the vehicle was hired by the sister of one of the suspects. Two different registration plates were also found in the vehicle which also belong to hired companies.
Once charged the suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court for the possession of stolen property and attempted murder.
