POTCHEFSTROOM – On Friday afternoon, 13 May 2022, Piet Plessis police members on patrol noticed a suspicious Grey Nissan Bakkie. The vehicle was pulled off the road at the Piet Besdam/Stella/Piet Plessis cross road near the High School.

Upon searching the vehicle, two calves were found loaded on the back of the bakkie. The three occupants were arrested after failing to produce a permit or giving satisfactory reasons for being in possession of the calves.

Initial investigations with regard to the brand marks found on the calves by members of the Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES) Unit, identified the owner of the calves, residing in Tshidilamolomo.

The trio are expected to appear before the Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 May 2022, on a charge of stock theft.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked the police officers for their alertness that resulted in the arrest of the suspects. He further thanked the owner for brand marking his livestock in accordance with the Animal Identification Act, 2002 (Act No. 6 of 2002) as this assisted the police with the identification of the calves.
