Sunnyside Monday blitz nets fourty suspects

A concerted 24-hour operation by various units of Sunnyside police station resulted in forty suspects being arrested for offences that include drunken driving, assault, possession of dagga and fraud. The operations started on Monday morning.

Four other suspects were caught while driving an Isuzu bakkie that was reportedly hijacked at gunpoint in Midrand earlier yesterday.

The four were caught at the corner of Wessels and Pretorius Street following a description that was circulated through the police emergency radio. A 42-year-old woman and three men aged between 30 and 33 are expected to be charged with possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The operations in Sunnyside are aimed to deter criminal activities and enhance police visibility, which resulted in the recent arrest of an alleged robber, burglar and a smash-and-grab suspect a few seconds after the offences were committed.

The suspects arrested during the 24-hour operations are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court soon.
