Rapist handed life term imprisonment

KIMBERLEY – 53 Year old Kediemetse Sehemo, has been convicted by the Taung Regional Court for raping a 74-year-old elderly woman in February 2022.

The accused broke into the victim’s house at approximately 23h30 and raped her. After raping her he threatened to kill her should she tell anyone about the rape incident.  The victim alerted her neighbour, subsequent to the ordeal. The accused was arrested immediately as he was known to the victim.

The investigating officer, Sergeant Sidwell Dastile successfully opposed bail and the accused was remanded in police custody until the finalisation of the trial.

The DNA evidence linked the accused with the crime scene.  On Tuesday, 08 November 2022 the accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the investigating officer Sergeant Sidwell Dastile, for his meticulous investigative work.
