Police investigate inquest in two separate fire deaths: Gqeberha

GQEBERHA – Police in Gqeberha are investigating two separate cases of inquest after three people lost their lives when their homes caught alight.

In the first incident, a 35-year-old mother and her 10-month-old baby girl died in a shack fire last night, 12 September 2022. It is alleged that at about 22:30, police was notified of the fire in Elijah Street in Walmer Location. The mother, Bukelwa Klaas and the child, Likhaya Klaas were asleep when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and SAPS Walmer are investigating an inquest.

In another incident, at about 08:00 this morning, police were alerted to a fire on the second floor at a flat in Park Drive. On arrival, the body of a 65-year-old female was found in the bedroom. At this stage, circumstances surrounding the blaze and the cause of the fire is unknown. The next of kin of the deceased woman is yet to be informed.

SAPS Humewood is investigating an inquest.
