Police ensure that unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition are taken off the streets

WESTERN CAPE – Police members in the Western Cape are going the extra mile to ensure that unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition are taken off the streets

Atlantis police members participated in an integrated operation on Thursday, 21 July 2022. The members responded to information and approached and searched an identified address. They confiscated two handmade guns and ammunition and dagga. Two males aged 41 and 21 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of dagga.

Police members of Operation Restore deployed in Samora Machel conducted random stop and search operations on Friday 22 July 2022. When the convoy drove down Harry Gwala Street at 23:58 they noticed a man who tried to evade them and the police gave chase. Upon the searching the man they confiscated a 9mm pistol with no ammunition. The 22-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Atlantis and Athlone Magistrate court’s respectively on the mentioned charges.
