Paris: France and New Zealand secured commanding victories in their final pool stage matches, topping their respective groups as the Women’s Rugby World Cup quarter-final matchups were finalized. France will face Ireland, while New Zealand is set to compete against South Africa in the next stage of the tournament.


According to France24.com, France delivered a decisive 57-10 victory over South Africa at Franklins Gardens, securing top position in Pool D. The French team showcased their offensive prowess by scoring nine tries, with Emilie Boulard and Joanna Grisez each contributing two tries.



In a parallel display of strength, New Zealand’s Black Ferns thrilled a sell-out crowd of 30,000 by scoring six tries. Stacey Waaka initiated the scoring in the 15th minute, followed by a try from Chryss Viliko, putting New Zealand 12-0 ahead. The young talent Sorensen-McGee further extended their lead with a hat-trick, helping the team to a 19-0 advantage by halftime. New Zealand demonstrated robust defensive capabilities, crucial in the knockout stages, as they prevented Ireland from mounting a comeback.



Sorensen-McGee completed her hat-trick with one minute remaining and contributed to a swift move that Maia Joseph finished off, sealing New Zealand’s dominant performance.



In other matches, Japan rallied to defeat Spain 29-21 in York, finishing third in Pool C, although both teams were already eliminated. Italy’s Vittoria Ostuni Minuzzi achieved a hat-trick of tries, leading her team to a 64-3 victory over Brazil, securing third place in Pool D.
