The BCM District Crime Prevention Head, Brigadier Nomazwi Nkombisa led a team of women and painted Kidd’s Beach area with their dignified blue yesterday.

On Tuesday, 23 August 2022, the first phase of Operation Sikhona comprising of ladies from SAPS, Provincial and municipal traffics, Law enforcement and Social Development started with a roadblock on route R72, and ensured the safety of motorists and visitors traveling in and out of East London area.

A team managed to stop and searched vehicles, and issued several traffic fines valued R27 700 to motorists for some traffic offences.

The BCM District Commissioner, Major General Vos, Chief Traffic Officer Mr Jacobs, Chief Traffic Officer Tokwe, and CPF member Amanda Timms also visited and monitored these operations.

During the roadblock, the women in blue saved the life of a woman suspected of mental illness, who was walking naked along the road. A woman was rescued and later reunited with her family unharmed.

A team proceeded with the second phase of the operation, which included visiting of four schools in Ncerha Village 8. Members held engagements with learners on issues of GBV, drug and alcohol abuse and human trafficking. The engagement was also attended by parents and different stakeholders.

During the engagement, information was received about two drug posts, some members made a follow-up and pounced on the two houses. From the first house in Village 8, police seized live ammunition and dangerous weapons and arrested a man. From the second house, a woman was nabbed for dealing in dagga and police seized dagga and undisclosed amount of money.

The two suspects aged 64 and 34 will appear before the Magistrates’ Court today on their respective charges.
