NYSC staff tasked on ethics, value-based leadership

The Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, has challenged staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to promote positive work ethics and value-based leadership.

Wahab made the call at the graduation of participants of Work Ethics and Organisational Performance Course 2023, organised by the centre, on Friday in Abuja.

He said the course was designed to promote work ethics, team building and critical thinking in their organisation, the NYSC being a critical institution of the government.

Wahab said the participants had been taken through series of modules comprising emotional intelligence, team building, team work, value based leadership and elements of adaptive leadership.

He said the course also covered conflict management in work places, adding that conflict or disagreement was inevitable in every organisation which required effective leadership to manage.

“So, leaders are important in ensuring the issues are not allowed to fester for so long.

“That is why we have challenged them to go back to their organisations and apply what they have learnt from this course,” he said.

The Course Coordinator, retired Brig.-Gen. Ferdinand Eze, said the five-day course covered organising and managing the workplace, organisational culture and ethics.

Eze said the course also covered motivation of employees, value based leadership, effective communication, workplace conflict, team building, among others.

He said the participants were put through series of questions that were supposed to serve as an exercise.

“We have 39 participants who have completed this programme and from interactions, we have witnessed from yesterday through today, participants and facilitators that have benefited from this programme.

“Secondly, I want to put it on record that the participants have conducted themselves very well throughout this programme,” he said.

Mrs Hadiza Adamu, a participant from NYSC, FCT Office, said it was the first she would experience an intensive training on work ethics that covered broad areas of concern.

Adamu promised that she and other participants would take the lessons learnt to their various offices to enhance their performances in handling corps members.

Mr Anthony Ezekiel from Kogi State NYSC Secretariat said the course had exposed him to many strategies on how to do his work better and achieve maximum results.

He thanked NYSC and NARC for the opportunity to learn something new on the job. (www.nannews.ng)
