The Minister of Small Business Development, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams to host a National Township, Rural and Informal Economy Symposium

The Minister of Small Business Development, Ms. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams in partnership with the National Treasury supported by the Ecosystem Development for Small Enterprise (EDSE) of the European Union will be hosting a two-day National Township, Rural and Informal Economy Symposium, entitled “Elevating the Informal, Social and Solidarity Economies: Best Practices to inform Policy”.

The Deputy President, David Mabuza will deliver a keynote address at the symposium intended to bring the Informal Sector to share knowledge, ideas and acquire effective strategies to support and enable the informal economy (including the role of evidence and data, partnerships, and transversal collaboration).

Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams together with key stakeholders will present an opportunity to discuss the strengths, weaknesses and lessons from the current policies and strategies in place to support the informal economy. The symposium will share proposals and ideas to inform an overarching and enabling policy document that builds on the five National Informal Business Upliftment Strategy (NIBUS) pillars in ways that can support the solidarity and social economy.

Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams is inviting the business society in the informal sector to be part of the diverse policy makers and practitioners to strengthen partnerships and foster new relationships amongst government, donors, business development service providers, communities, and the private sector.
