High Court hands down heavy sentence

The murder and bussiness robberry accused Thabiso Makwana aged 29, was given a long jail sentence by the High Court in Polokwane as follows:

Murder - 20 years imprisonment without the option of a fine.

Business Robbery - 10 years imprisonment without the option of a fine.

The accused was further declared unfit to possess firearm.

Thabiso Modikwa was arrested by the Police at Driekop Village outside Lebowakgomo for crimes he committed on 2015-01-02 at about 15:30 when he stabbed a 26-year-old victim several times with a sharp instrument and further robbed him a cash amount of money. The deceased was taken to the hospital and died the following day.

Subsequent Police investigations by the Detectives together with the Task Team led to the arrest of the accused.

This sentence will send a very strong message to all those involved in criminal activities. Crime does not pay and the long arm of the law will still hunt them wherever they are and bring them to justice.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba welcomed this sentence and also commended the team of Detectives for sterling investigative work.

The General further encouraged this members to do more in crime detection until all the criminals are removed from our streets.
