NamPower officially launched its national public electricity safety campaign aimed at creating awareness of electricity safety, in Mariental on Tuesday.

NamPower Managing Director (MD) Simson Haulofu said the launch of the national public safety campaign known as ‘Pasop, Stay Safe’ was prompted by constant reports of incidents related to electrical accidents.

‘NamPower and its partners in electricity distribution continue to receive reports from members of the public of incidents of electrical shocks after someone came into contact with live electrical infrastructure,’ said Haulofu.

He added that reports of vandalism of electrical infrastructure, including copper theft, the removing of various components from electrical structures and fires near or under electrical structures have been received.

The MD explained that most of these incidents occur because of the lack of knowledge about electricity, therefore the safety campaign is designed to provide electricity safety education awareness to every Namibian citizen.
