An NGO, Just Friends Club of Nigeria (JFCN) says there is an urgent need to reset Nigerian economy and infrastructure, given current realties in the nation.

President of JFCH, Mr Fred Ohwahwa, made the call in Abuja on Wednesday during the 10th annual anniversary lecture of JFCH.

The lecture, with the topic: “Resetting Nigeria”, was delivered by foremost human rights advocate, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that JFCN is a socio-cultural organisation that fosters and encourages spirit of oneness and companionship among members and other friendly associations.

It is also involved in recreation , sports and engages in philanthropy for the needy members of the society.

Ohwahwa said the resetting was also required in the infrastructure development, agriculture, health, internal security, economy, among others.

According to him, there is also an urgent need for Nigerians to reset themselves as individuals, communal government and corporate entities.

He said the existence of new governments both at the federal and state levels, was an opportunity to reset the nation for the good of Nigerians.

He said in the course of JFCN ‘s philanthropy, visited children’s home in Karu Abuja, and presented items to the orphanage during the festive period.

He said the group also visited Mother Teresa Children’s home Gwarinpa, Abuja and the city of refugee, Durumi, for its philanthropic activity.

He said the club was at Government Secondary School Jabi to present a cheque for the school fees of 20 indigent pupils of the school among many other philanthropy by the club.

Chairman of the event, Prof. Samuel Aghalino in his remark, said the event was intellectually inclined with focus on discussions on how to move the nation forward.

He said the present configuration of the nation was not the best, saying that development could not be driven from the centre.

He said there was need to allow the regions drive their own development at their own pace, adding that Nigerians should play a role in nation building from different perspectives.

The guest speaker, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, commended the group for its consistency on its activities since its inception in 2013.

He said there was the problem of diversity and management of diversity in Nigeria.

He said the challenge of nation had been issues of counting and accounting, saying that there was the challenge of evolving the right citizens.

We do not have an agreement of what our national value should be; we need to reset our values just like what JFCN is doing as a group.

He said there was need to begin to look out for Nigerians who were different in doing the right things through social interaction.

High point of the event was a discussion on resetting Nigeria by a team of panelists.
