PARKTOWN – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng have bolstered its senior management ranks with the appointment of three brigadiers in critical posts.

The three newly appointed brigadiers were warmly welcomed and congratulated by Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela during a provincial congratulatory session which was held on Monday, 05 December 2022 at the Gauteng 10111 Command Centre in Midrand. Lt Gen Mawela was joined by his Deputy Provincial Commissioners, District Commissioners, Provincial Heads and various other senior managers this morning.

Brigadier Simon Hlungwani has been appointed as Provincial Commander: Litigation, Legal Services. He is no stranger to SAPS Gauteng Provincial Head Office (PHO), Legal Services as he was based at this office before he was promoted to the National Head Office, Litigation Services in 2018. Brigadier Hlungwani has 22 years of service in the organisation and obtained a BProc degree in 1999. He later went on to obtain a Bachelor of Law degree (2014).

Brigadier Stephina Paballo Nkosi has been appointed as Station Commander of SAPS Ga-Rankuwa. She steadily rose through the ranks and has 31 years of service in the organisation. She obtained a National Diploma in Police Administration (2001) and later went on to obtain a BTech degree in Policing (2008). Brigadier Nkosi also completed various courses which include, among others; Emerging Leadership Programme, Mentorship Course and Station Management Learning Programme.

Brigadier Moeti Timothy Rapitsi has been appointed as Station Commander of SAPS Meadowlands. He is a decorated senior officer with 35 years of service in the organisation. Brigadier Rapitsi made a stint at National Head Office (Division: Visible Policing) in 2020 before he volunteered to be placed at SAPS Mabopane last year. Brigadier Rapitsi obtained a National Diploma in Police Administration in 1996 and later went on to obtain a BTech degree in Policing (2003).

During his congratulatory address Lt Gen Mawela encouraged the senior officers to make it their business to be known in their respective environments and communities. “Always strive for service excellence as you hit the ground running. Lift our organisation to higher levels,” said Lt Gen Mawela.
