Eden Cluster police confiscates dangerous weapons and ammunition during operations

Concerted efforts to eradicate serious and violent crimes as well as gender based violence led to the confiscation of dangerous weapons and ammunition, in Conville (George) when Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team members were deployed to crime stricken areas in George. This operation included blue light patrols as well as stop and search operations.

On Saturday, 30 July 2021 the members arrested of three suspects for dangerous weapons and one for possession of drugs. The police seized a gas gun, knives and they confiscated small quantities of Tik as well as Mandrax tablets. The suspects aged 27, 33 and 52 remains in custody.

Furthermore, members attached to the Conville police arrested a 35-year-old suspect after a 9mm round of ammunition was found in his possession at Pienaar Street, Conville at about 22:30 on Thursday, 29 July 2021. The vigilant members were conducting level three lockdown enforcement operations when they stopped the man on the street. A search ensued which led to the discovery of the ammunition. He was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of ammunition. The suspect is also facing a charge for contravention of Disaster Management Act.

In an unrelated matter, an intelligence driven operation by the Uniondale Crime Prevention Unit led to the recovery of a large solar panel near Avontuur just outside Uniondale on Friday, 30 July 2021 at about 18:30. The police arrested a 29-year-old man on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

All other arrested remains in custody. They are all expected to appear in court on Monday, 02 August 2021 on mentioned charges.
