Duo behind bars for possession of stolen copper cables worth R67,000

KIMBERLEY – Vigilance and swift action displayed by Kimberley Visible Policing, put two suspects behind bars, subsequent to be found in possession of copper cables.

On Thursday, 10 November 2022, members were busy conducting stop and searches and random crime prevention duties in the Kimberley Central Business District (CBD) when they spotted a vehicle parked near the local scrapyard in Cecil Sussman Road in Kimberley.

The team tactically approached the vehicle and after searching it found copper weighing 68.0 kilograms inside.

The suspects were put behind bars for failing to prove ownership of the cables. One of the suspect was found in possession of a licensed firearm.

The vehicle was confiscated as it was instrumental in the commission of crime. They were charged for damaging essential infrastructure, under the Criminal Amendment Act.

The duo are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Kolisa Otola applauded the Kimberley Visible Policing members for their vigilance and putting the suspects behind bars. This is a clear indication that more boots on the ground reaps success.
