City gears up for launch of ‘Vooma’ vaccination weekend

Statement by Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Zahid Badroodien

The City of Cape Town has finalised its logistics for the upcoming national vaccination weekend.

The Executive Mayor will be launching ‘Vooma’ vaccination weekend at the City’s Pelican Park Clinic on Friday, 1 October 2021. The vaccination weekend will take place between 1 and 3 October 2021, and aims to reach at least 30 000 people within the metropole.

The City will have a number of fixed and roving vaccination sites operating during this period, in the eight health sub-districts across the metropole.

This is the first time that weekend vaccinations will be widely available and we encourage residents who have not yet had the opportunity to get vaccinated, to please make use of this opportunity.

To those who are still unsure about getting vaccinated, please reach out to your local health facility for advice and guidance, so that you may make an informed decision about your personal health and that of those around you.

This campaign is an indication of the City’s commitment to drive vaccination efforts in our most vulnerable communities where residents require additional assistance to access vaccination services. We are encouraging leadership from across the political spectrum, civil society, religious and traditional leaders, labour and business to support the campaign and encourage as many people to vaccinate during this weekend.

We are expecting the fourth wave of Covid-19 to hit South Africa towards the end of the year and we have the power to ensure that far fewer people end up in hospital or die. We have to work together to protect our own health and by default, the health of all our loved ones and the city at large.
