GAUTENG – Godfrey Kanyana (41), arrested on a warrant on Friday, 17 February 2023, whilst appearing in the Midrand Magistarte’s Court for a case of perjury.
He consequently appeared in court on Monday, 20 February 2023. The arrest emanates from a cash-in-transit (CIT), cross pavement robbery on Friday, 25 February 2022, where a G4S cash guard was accosted by group of armed suspects after a pick up, outside Mnandi Spar along Tulip Road, Centurion.
The guard was shot dead before the suspects got away. A white Toyota Corolla was found abandoned nearby. The Hawks’ Serious Crime Investigation revealed that the vehicle belong to Kanyana who later reported a false case of hijacking.
Following a probe the Hawks arrested him and charged him with perjury. Kanyana now also faces the murder and robbery charges as he has been linked to the armed robbery. Kanyana is the third arrested person linked to the robbery. Sabelo Lawrence Masemola (27), was arrested on 07 March 2022, followed by that of his relative Elias Masemola (24), on 10 April 2022.
The pair has already appeared in court on several occasions. They are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court today, 24 February 2023, with Kanyana expected to be enjoined on follow-up proceedings.
