Five armed men on Sunday allegedly impersonated police officers and entered a private farm near Grootfontein, where they robbed the 70-year-old farm owner of guns and cellphones.

The Namibian Police Force’s Head of Community Affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the incident occurred around 20h00 on the farm situated along the Grootfontein-Rundu road.

She said the men pretended to be police officers who were investigating a murder case on the farm.

“One of them was dressed in a special field force uniform and police reflector jacket, while the remaining four were in civilian clothes, also with reflectors jackets,” said Mbeha.

All five were armed. They allegedly stormed the main farm house and demanded that the farm owner open the safe, which he did, Mbeha said.

They then attacked the farm owner and took his four firearms and two cellphones.

The man’s wife was also present at the time of the attack but she was not harmed.

No arrest has been made in connection with the matter, while the victim is reported to be in stable condition.

Police investigations continue.
