POLOKWANE – “Reward for hard work, is more work”. The milestone achievement by Captain Masekela Rufus Magoro, attached to Provincial Corporate Communication in Limpopo, has proven the truism of this quote.
The 39-year-old Captain obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Police Science from the University of South Africa and managed to obtained distinctions in some of the courses. The graduation ceremony was held on Wednesday, 12 October 2022 in Pretoria.
His latest achievement has raised the bar even higher for a lot of people especially his colleagues, many of whom have followed his career trajectory as proactive member of the South African Police Service with a distinct record of exploits.
Captain Magoro’s journey began in 2005 as a trainee before he joined the Social Crime Prevention Unit in Letsitele in 2006. He later moved to Ritavi after five years where he also served as the communication officer until 2012.
From there he went to Maake Police Station in 2012 where he performed the same duties. In 2016, he was promoted to a rank of Sergeant and worked there until 2017 when he joined the Provincial Corporate Communication.
His competency and hard work saw him move steadily up the ladder. Within two years he was promoted to a rank of Warrant Officer and in that period he received an award for Best Administration Employee for level 1-7 during the Provincial Prestige awards 2017/2018, proving his success story in what he does best. On 02 February 2022, he was promoted to a rank of Captain and was appointed the Component’s sub-section Commander.
The innovative and goal driven police officer kept raising the SAPS flag high with his unique and distinctive talents. He performs his duties with excellence, ensuring the execution of protocol and events as well as joint projects with other government departments in terms of the Programme and Project management regulatory framework, managing the provision of protocol and etiquette support to event management and the organising of events on behalf of the Provincial Commissioner amongst others.
He also acquired different professional certificates which include Facilitation Skills Planning, Facilitation learning, Training Communication, Assessment and Evaluation with Love Life Youth Centre.He also holds a Diploma in Policing with University of South Africa and attended a total of 16 internal courses facilitated by the South African Police Service.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe and the Management had commended the member for his persistence in reaching for his goals.
“We salute all the members who have taken a bold step to ensure they have a brighter future. Our intention as the Management is to equip police members by developing their specialised knowledge and also encouraging them to acquire specific academic expertise. We still encourage members to attend courses and apply for bursaries that are made available yearly offering a variety of fields,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
