595 Police Officers Participate in the Sanlam Marathon

Cape town: The South African Police Service (SAPS) extends its well wishes to the 595 police officers participating in the Cape Town Sanlam Marathon. This year’s marathon, spanning two days, features races of 10, 21, and 42 kilometers.

According to South African Police Service, the Western Cape Province has the highest number of participants with 109 officers. Gauteng and the Eastern Cape provinces each have 85 runners, while Head Office has fielded 80 participants. KwaZulu-Natal follows with 76 runners, Limpopo has 63, Mpumalanga has 32, North West has 22, and the Northern Cape has 18 officers participating in the event.

Lieutenant General Mosikili, the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, emphasized the importance of fitness for police officers. He stated, “Fitness isn’t a sport for SAPS, it’s strategy. Physical training boosts alertness, builds resilience, and sharpens focus. These are key tools in detecting and preventing crime, and that is why initiatives like the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, supported by Polmed and Sanlam, are vital to building healthier, stronger officers who serve with precision and passion.”
