The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) and the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to share statistical data and information on census, survey and research studies, as well as documents for planning purposes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Signing on behalf of the ECN, its Chief Electoral and Referenda Officer, Peter Shaama stated that as an integral part of its strategic agenda aimed at enhancing the electoral and referenda process, the ECN found it imperative to formalise its collaboration with NSA with a view toward strengthening organisational capacities, capabilities and competencies in ways that optimise opportunities for both institutions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The MoU will also enable the two institutions to share relevant knowledge, experience and expertise in respect of human resources management, information communication technologies and logistics management; and assist each other towards enhancing systems and operations.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cSigning the MoU will therefore enable the two parties to leverage on the use of resources at their disposal for mutual benefits thereby establishing synergies in sharing relevant experience, knowledge and expertise,\u201d the Chief Electoral Officer said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
On his part, NSA Statistician-General, Alex Shimuafeni said this year’s population census which commences on 24 September 2023 will be collected digitally.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
He said the digital accessories which will be used when collecting data will make it easier to transport data and avoid unnecessary errors such as the spelling of names and loss of questionnaire forms as data can be backed up in soft copy format.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Every 10 years, a census is conducted to count and collect demographic data about every person living in the country and this process is not merely a statistical exercise; it is the cornerstone of sound governance, he noted.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
