POLOKWANE – The concerted efforts by the South African Police Services in Limpopo to deal with illegal mining continue to yield positive results following the recovery of mining equipment at Driekop mine outside Burgersfort on Wednesday 14 December 2022.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
These disruptive operations were conducted by various units including the Provincial Organized Crime Unit, the DPCI, Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Provincial Task Team and Home Affairs at Mooihoek village in Driekop and, in the process they found an abandoned illegal mining equipment.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is believed that while the Multi-Disciplinary Team was busy with the disruptive Operation, the Illegal Miners spotted them and fled to evade an arrest and thus leaving their Mining Equipment on the scene.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Twelve 12 undocumented persons were also arrested during the operation.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the collaborative effort by the teams involved. “We believe that with this kind of Commitment and continuous Operations, we will win this fight against illegal Mining,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The arrested foreign nationals will appear before Praaktiseer Magistrate Court soon facing charges of of contravention of Immigration Act.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Police operations are still continuing.<\/p>\n
