NORTHERN CAPE – The SAPS welcomes the recent life sentence that was handed down to a 37-year-old uncle for raping his neice in Bathlaros.<\/p>\n
During 2018 the accused and his 12-year-old niece was alone at home in Maruping Village when her mother went to town.<\/p>\n
The accused threatened the victim and raped her in the bedroom.<\/p>\n
The victim was afraid to speak out but her aunt came across a notebook where she wrote a letter about the rape incident.<\/p>\n
On 24 September 2020 a rape case was registered and the uncle subsequently arrested.<\/p>\n
On 10 October 2022 the accused was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Mothibistad Regional Court.<\/p>\n
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name is registered in the National Sexual Offences Register.<\/p>\n
The Acting Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offenses unit (FCS), Colonel Sipho Kheswa applauded D\/ WO Keitumetse Semetsa of the Kuruman FCS for the meticulous investigation that led to this outstanding sentences.<\/p>\n
