GQEBERHA – The phenomenal and impressive recovery of illegal drugs continue to manifest as eager and dedicated members in Nelson Mandela Bay sweep the streets and hotspot areas to rid communities from these prohibited drugs.<\/p>\n
On Friday, 22 July at about 22:00, Gqeberha Flying Squad members received and acted on information of suspected drug dealing in central which is a hotspot for drug trafficking.<\/p>\n
On arrival at the corners of Lawrence and Havelock Streets, the suspect was spotted busy with his illegal activity and when he saw the police vehicle, he started to run. The members chased after him and the suspect managed to run into his flat and locked the door.<\/p>\n
When he refused to open, the members forced the gate and door open. A group of people arrived and attempted to prevent members from entering. Back up arrived from SAPS Mount Road, Humewood, the Anti-Gang Unit as well as private security companies. The suspect jumped through the window and escaped.<\/p>\n
On searching the flat, police confiscated the following drugs:<\/p>\n
128 green packets containing blocks of CAT <\/p>\n
160 PERKS\/Drugs<\/p>\n
17 packets containing crushed CAT<\/p>\n
10 packets of tik<\/p>\n
5 big blocks of cocaine<\/p>\n
1 packet containing crushed cocaine<\/p>\n
3 scales<\/p>\n
Cash<\/p>\n
An enquiry docket was registered for further investigation. The total estimated street value of the drugs recovered is R300 000.<\/p>\n
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the members involved in the confiscation of the drugs. \u201cDrug trafficking is a threat that we face and the seizures achieved show what is possible when law enforcement starts to stamp their authority on these criminals. Drug dealing most often is the causal factors to much of the violent crimes plaguing our societies. We urge communities to continue to blow the whistle on illegal drug activities,\u201d added Maj Gen Ncata.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
