{"id":34828,"date":"2021-09-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southafricavoice.com\/?guid=2d2f61cc34217b23ba34b5238ac03cd6"},"modified":"2021-09-27T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T00:00:00","slug":"health-dg-placed-on-precautionary-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricavoice.com\/health-dg-placed-on-precautionary-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"Health DG placed on precautionary suspension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Health on Monday confirmed that Director-General, Dr Sandile Buthelezi, has been placed on &#8220;precautionary suspension&#8221; following damning allegations.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the department, this is until Buthelezi appears before a disciplinary hearing regarding his role in the Digital Vibes saga.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The matter relates to the controversial R150 million COVID-19 and National Health Insurance (NHI) communications service contract scored by Digital Vibes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In June, President Cyril Ramaphosa put former Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on special leave. He later resigned from his position \u201cto bring certainty and stability\u201d to the portfolio.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The department said the Deputy Director-General responsible for NHI, Dr Nicholas Crisp, will continue to act until the hearing process has been concluded.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no timeframe to his suspension, it&#8217;s now between him and the Special Investigating Unit to clear his name,&#8221;
