Pretoria: The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has confirmed that the withdrawal of its troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is proceeding according to the established plan. This operation is part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC).
According to South African Government News Agency, this confirmation follows reports suggesting that South African soldiers were stranded in Goma due to transportation delays. The SANDF clarified that logistical arrangements for the withdrawal are being managed by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), ensuring the safe and organized return of the troops.
The SANDF reassured the public that all deployed members are safe, well-supplied, and receiving necessary support. It criticized the City Press article for not seeking comment from the SANDF before publication, highlighting the importance of accurate reporting during this sensitive phase of the withdrawal.
The SANDF remains committed to transparency and will continue to provide updates as the withdrawal progresses. Defence and Military Veterans Minister Angie Motshekga emphasized the significance of this withdrawal as a new chapter in regional peacekeeping efforts. The process is structured to ensure the safe return of troops and equipment, with ongoing logistical support.
