USE OF ICT IN THE MILITARY FOCUS OF SYMPOSIUM IN SOUTH AFRICA

PRETORIA-- The use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the military and its benefits to develop the defence community will take centre stage at the Military Information Communication Symposium of South Africa (MICSA) which will be held here later this month.

The aim of MICSSA 2018 is to continue with the tradition of building on the opportunity of promoting information and communications-related development between the Defence Community, Government and Industry; local and international. MICSSA provides the platform where ideas, strategies, requirements and potential solutions can be shared and discussed, said the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in a statement Thursday.

MICSA 2018, which is taking place from May 14 to 18 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, will be held under the theme Information Communication Technology (ICT) as a military capability.

The SANDF, together with Armaments Corporation of South Africa (ARMSCOR), the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), will play host to thought leaders in the military ICT sector during the symposium.

High-profile speakers such as Professor Basie von Solms, research professor in the Academy for Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Johannesburg, and Hemoed-RAlmer Heitman, South African author and military analyst, will discuss the management of military ICT.

The management of Military ICT has become very complex due to the flexibility that it requires to accommodate a wide range of diversified operations. Added to this is the provision and management of the enabling administrative ICT abilities underpinning the successful achievement of effective operations, said the SANDF.

MICSA is seen as a great platform for all military ICT stakeholders to showcase talents and knowledge of the subject at hand and gain recognition from the defence community, as well as government and other ICT related industries, both local and international.
