Two Willowvale men arrested for alleged murder

KING WILLIAM'S TOWN: Willowvale Police arrested two men aged 22 and 29 for alleged murder of a 74-year-old man. Both suspects were arrested on Thursday 24 January 2019. It is alleged that the 74-year-old man was last seen on Wednesday 23 January 2019 at about 20h00 after having dinner. He went to sleep in his bed room and his sister went to sleep in her bed room.

On the morning of Thursday 24, January 2019 the sister of the 74-year-old man went to his room to serve him tea. She knocked on the door but there was no response. She became suspicious and called neighbours who forced the door open. The 74-year-old was found dead in his room.

The deceased did not have visible injuries and police believe he was strangled to death. The murder case was reported to Willowvale Police who acted swiftly with the assistance of the community. The two suspects were arrested and will be charged for murder. Both suspects are also from the same village.

The murder was committed at Tywaka Locality, Fort Malan Village, Willowvale. The motive behind the murder of the elderly man is not yet clear as yet however police investigation continues. Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu condemned the murder of the elderly man. He praised the Willowvale Police for their swift action in tracing and arresting the suspects. He also thanked the community for assisting the police. The identity of the deceased will be withheld until all his relatives are officially informed about his death. The two suspects will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate's Court soon on a murder charge.
