Two men sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for stock theft

ABERDEEN – Hard work and dedication by Graaff-Reinet Stock Theft Unit detectives, Warrant Officers Johan Gerber and Laurence Jantjies was rewarded when Alfred Diempies Jiggels and Jacobus Cowee Kivido were found guilty and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for slaughtering of 6 Angora goats.

The two men both aged 35, were sentenced on 3 September 2020 in the Aberdeen Regional Court.

It is alleged that on the night of 15 August 2020, six Angora goats were firstly slaughtered and then removed from a farm in the Aberdeen district.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for the sentencing secured. Our fight against stock theft was rejuvenated by this court outcome. It is through quality investigation and working well with prosecution and courts that we managed to reach this stage and secure this sentence.”
