Alice SAPS arrested twelve (12) suspects after acts of violence including stoning of private and police vehicles yesterday at Alice. Public Order Police were deployed to quell the violence, open the road illegal blockage and disperse the violent attackers. The situation has since returned to normal and police continue to monitor the throughout.
The twelve suspects, six (6) males and six (6) females aged between 20 and 32 were arrested and charged for public violence. They are expected to appear at Alice Magistrate's Court on Monday, 18 Feb 2019.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Ntshinga condemned the acts of violence and vandalism of private property including police vehicles.
"It cannot be that whenever two parties disagree public violence, infringement of other people's rights and vandalism is the first option. We often receive complaints about lack or absence of police vehicles, anyone who vandalize or damage this rare resource is depriving others of quality service and an enemy of the people. We encourage police to be vigilant and protect the public and their property from such attacks," she emphasized.
