Three suspected rhino poachers nabbed

In a concerted effort to fight the scourge of crime by the Police in this Province, the crime fighting strategies including roadblocks and stop and searches are still yielding positive and meaningful results.

In the Hoedspruit Policing areas outside Phalaborwa, three (03) suspected rhino poaching syndicate have been arrested at a road block along the R40 route during the Provincial simultaneous Joint Operation Uya Pamwe as part of Operation Fiela II on Friday evening the 18th May 2018.

The joint operation composed of the South African Police Service, the Hoedspruit Farm Watch, the Young Civilians on Patrol (YCOP) and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) were manning a stop and search road block when they stopped a speeding motor vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, over R200 000 in cash, ear, a nose and a tail believed to be of a white rhino were found in possession of these suspects.

One of the suspects was found to be out on R5 000-00 bail recently on a rhino poaching related case.

The three suspects, aged, 25, 39 and 49 years will appear before the Hoedspruit Magistrate Court on Monday.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
