Suspects face charges for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen property

WESTERN CAPE – Efforts to rid communities of unlicensed firearms to create a safe and secure environment landed two suspects behind bars for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In the early hours of Thursday morning members of the Maitland Flying Squad searched a premises in Oribi court, Hanover Park after they received information about a firearm at the premises. The members searched an informal dwelling at the back of the main house where they found a 9mm pistol with 70 rounds of ammunition. Two suspects aged 25 and 31 were arrested and detained.

The suspects are due to make a court appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Friday.

In an unrelated matter members of Crime Intelligence arrested three suspects between the ages of 30 and 35 in Gugulethu on Tuesday evening for the possession of stolen property. An intelligence driven operation led them to the address where they found the suspects with cellular telephones that was taken in a business robbery in Kuilsriver.

Once charged the suspects are due to make a court appearance in the Athlone Magistrates court.
