Suspects arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Intelligence driven operation foiled a possible business robbery planned for an unknown factory in Botshabelo Industrial area on Friday 28 January 2022. The Mangaung Metro Tactical Response Team in Selosesha received intelligence from Crime Intelligence Unit and planned a way-lay activity to intercept the identified target before they could reach Botshabelo Industrial area.

The target vehicle fitting the description identified by the intelligence was spotted in Botshabelo West location and the team gave chase. A white Nissan Sentra was blocked by the teams at an open field in K-Section at about 13:51 and tactically approached.

Two suspects, 31 and 35 years were searched as well as the vehicle they were traveling in. Two firearms with the serial numbers filed off and twelve live rounds were found hidden under the bonnet inside the engine compartment of the vehicle. A large amount of money was also found inside a green bag in the boot.

The firearms and ammunition were seized by the police. The money and the vehicle were also confiscated and the two suspects arrested. A case of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Boithuso police station.

The suspects will appear in Botshabelo Magistrates’ Court on Monday 31 January 2022.
