Suspected rapist caught by the community

EASTERN CAPE - Flagstaff police arrested a 27-year-old man for alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman.

It is alleged that the victim was sent to a local shop at Zone 3, Qhasa Village, Flagstaff by her grandmother on Tuesday, 04 February 2020 at about 15:00. The victim came across with a man unknown to her. The man allegedly grabbed the victim to an unused house where she was allegedly raped.

After the alleged rape, the victim alerted community about what happed to her. Community members chased the suspect and caught him. Police were informed and they arrested the suspect.

The suspect is due to appear before the Flagstaff Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 06 February 2020 on a rape charge. OR Tambo Safer District Commissioner, Major General David Kanuka thanked the members of the community for their assistance in the arrest of the suspect.
