SOUTH AFRICA’S SABC GRANTED BROADCASTING RIGHTS FOR 2018 WORLD CUP BY FIFA

JOHANNESBURG, The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been granted rights to broadcast all FIFA events for this and next year, including the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA granted media rights to five major broadcasting entities in sub-Saharan Africa, including the SABC, which says it will broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by way of free-to-air transmission.

FIFA said in a statement Thursday that by working together with reliable partners in the sub-Saharan region, it would make sure that football fans have access to a high-quality viewing experience for each of the FIFA events.

Only 12 of the 54 African countries were not granted broadcasting rights.

The 2017-2018 FIFA events will also include the Under-20 and Under-17 World Cup, the Beach Soccer World Cup and the FIFA Confederations Cup. In 2018, the SABC will broadcast the Fifa World Cup, and the women's Under-20 and Under-17 tournaments.
