Sedibeng K9 Unit recovers an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, a hijacked truck and presumed stolen property in two separate incidents

On Saturday, 27 August 2022 members of Sedibeng K9 Unit arrested five suspects and recovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, a hijacked truck and presumed stolen property with an estimated value of over R1.5-million in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, Sedibeng K9 Unit members were reportedly out on a routine crime prevention patrol when they noticed a group a males in the area of Sharpeville. A search led the members to recover an unlicensed firearm and ammunition; one suspect was subsequently arrested.

In another incident on the same day, Sedibeng K9 Unit members operationalised information and proceeded to the identified address in Kliprivier. Upon arrival, the members caught four suspects in the act of off-loading presumed stolen property at the said address.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects’ truck and trailers are positively linked to a truck hijacking case reported at SAPS Hammanskraal, while the presumed stolen property is linked to a Bedfordview case.

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear before a Magistrates’ Court soon.
