Gelvandale: Sometimes when life deals a nasty blow it is often in the darkest skies that we see the brightest star. The shining stars in this story was members of SAPS Gelvandale when they opened their hearts and wallets to make the dream of a 21- year-old cancer victim come true. This young man lives in Helenvale to a very impoverished family. He is a matriculant at Chapman High School and his dream was to attend his matric farewell.
On hearing of his plight and financial situation, the members rallied together and organised a beautiful suit (complete with all the accessories), a car to be driven to the event on Thursday evening, 26 April 2018 at the Boardwalk as well as cash to make his fairy tale dream come true.
The family was very appreciative of the kind gesture of the police and this humble young man was 'over the moon' when police offered their generosity. Good deeds such as this can only generate positive energy to any person who cannot control what life throws at them however we can control the way we handle it. Thank you to the Station Commander and members of SAPS Gelvandale for giving hope to this cancer victim because in times like these they need to be around people who inspire, challenge and make them feel better.
