FREE STATE A 53-year-old Pretoria attorney and her 59-year-old accomplice, a former attorney, appeared briefly at the Bloemfontein Magistrates' Court yesterday for alleged fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
The two, Anna Van Niekerk and Johannes Botha, allegedly approached a Road Accident Fund (RAF) client after his application was declined twice in November 2017. They allegedly fabricated a new statement and presented it at the Pretoria High Court for a R2 million payment.
The matter was reported to the Hawks by the RAF for investigation leading to their arrest. Botha was slapped with another charge of impersonating an attorney.
Both suspects were released on a warning and their case was postponed to 25 May 2018 pending further investigation.
