Police in the Eastern Cape continue eradicating firearms

GQEBERHA - It is a fact that firearms are the main weapon of choice when it comes to serious and violent crimes hence police operational responses must be continuous in removing these guns that are in the wrong hands.

An intelligence driven operation conducted by Provincial Organised Crime (Gang Investigation) in Gqeberha and East London Public Order Policing resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of three firearms at an alleged drug den in East London.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, 1 February 2023 at about 22:30, the tactical team swooped in at a house at Primula Street in Parkside, East London. Two suspects, aged 32 and 36 years old were arrested as they were driving out of the garage. Two 9mm pistols with ammunition were found in the vehicle. They were arrested and detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

A third 9mm pistol was found in the house. A 37-year-old male was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The firearms will be sent to ballistics for analysis. A total of 131 rounds of ammunition was seized.

The suspects are appearing in the East London magistrate court today, 3 February 2023 on the charges.
