The regional activation of the National Symbols Campaign holds immense significance as it signifies the need to respect and honour the protocols related to the national symbols as values of unity.

These were the words of Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus during the regional activation of the National Symbols Campaign at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West Region on Wednesday.

She said national symbols hold significance beyond being mere emblems, as it serves as visual representations of Namibia’s shared identity.

Theofelus said national symbols effectively convey fundamental aspects, including values, history, and aspirations, that define a nation.

“I’m encouraging the youth to embrace and attain a thorough comprehension of Namibian national symbols. This will serve as a guiding light, directing you towards a more promising and prosperous future,” she said.

Namibia, she noted, can foster a sense of belonging and pride in its symbols, ensuring that the region and country at large become shining examples of unity and progress.

“If all of us have the same thinking, or the same experiences, we will be unable to do something new that builds a stronger nation, but because we are diverse in cultures, talents, languages, and knowledge, we are able to bring all these diverse attributes into one umbrella body called ‘Namibia’ and make it stronger as there is strength in diversity,” she added.

The deputy minister also called on teachers, parents and community leaders to actively support the National Symbols Campaign and work hand-in-hand to create an environment where children can flourish, grow and celebrate their cultural heritage.

On her part, Kavango West Region Governor Sirkka Ausiku called on all residents to take the national campaign seriously and become its advocates.
