As part of the Safer Festive Season plan, numerous operations were held from Friday, 14 till Monday, 17 December 2018 throughout the Province and yielded a number of successes on the crime front. Four unlicensed firearms and 76 rounds of ammunition were confiscated with seven arrests linked to cases registered in Nyanga, Atlantis, Delft and Cloetesville.
In liquor operations, substantial quantities of alcohol were seized in Harare, Gugulethu, Malmesbury, Philadelphia, Vredenburg and Nyanga.
Meanwhile in an effort to ensure road users are safe and no illicit activity occurred, several integrated roadblocks and Vehicle Check Points (VCPs) were held in Leeu Gamka, R43 Ceres, Villiersdorp, Swellendam and Grabouw.
In Swellendam, a total 7927 units of abalone valued at R3 million were confiscated after police followed up on information. A 37-year-old was arrested and will appear in court soon.
Similar operations are set to continue as the holiday season continues. Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General KE Jula has implored members on the ground to do even more. He acknowledged the good work done thus far.
