Labour and Employment conducts workplace inspections in Western Cape, 9 May

Employment and Labour Minister, T.W Nxesi and Deputy Minister, Moloi to participate in a line-up of Departmental programmes that will culminate with a Budget Vote

Employment and Labour Minister T.W Nxesi and Deputy Minister Boitumelo Moloi are to lead a number of Departmental activities in a two-day “eventful” programme.

Setting the scene, Deputy Minister Moloi will this coming Monday (08 May) lead a multi-specialist team of departmental inspectors to conduct workplace inspections in the Western Cape.

On Tuesday (09 May) Minister Nxesi, Deputy Minister Moloi and Department’s Director-General, Thobile Lamati will address a stakeholder engagement session on the recently-amended Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act and the recently assented Employment Equity (EE) Act. Their addresses will be preceded by presentations on the amended COIDA and EE Act.

The Minister and Deputy Minister's address to the breakfast session will be followed later in the day by the tabling of the Department of Employment and Labour’s Budget Vote for 2023/24 in the National Assembly at 14:00.

The Ministry’s budget address will focus on the Department’s allocation for the 2023/24 financial year, the recently amended labour legislation and related policy initiatives, the role of the inspectorate and enforcement of legislation, facilitation of job creation programmes, the role of Department’s entities, plans for the department in the year under review including its public entities and branches.
