Ireland lauds roads agency for embracing technology

ABUJA: IRELAND has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for its investments in technology. Ireland Minister for Agriculture, Food, Marine and Defence, Simon Coveney, and Ireland Ambassador to Nigeria, Sean Hoy, gave the commendation during their courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja.

Coveney commended the FRSC for not only embracing, but sustaining the use of technology in its management of traffic. He noted that the practice was what the Corps needs to achieve its goal of making the road s safer in this era of massive motorization. He particularly commended the FRSC for embracing the programmes of International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) through which about 2 000 staff of the Corps have been trained and certified.

Hoy added that the certificates awarded by the ICDL were recognised globally. He noted that with sustained efforts, all staff of the FRSC could equally benefit from the training programme and be certified for enhanced system management. Hoy pledged to support the Corps' drive for computerisation.
