Gauteng Government Departments present budgets and plans to residents

From Thursday 11 May 2023, various Portfolio Committees of the Gauteng Legislature will hold public meetings across the province to examine the budgets of Provincial Government Departments for the current financial year, 2023/24.

The meetings are a platform for Gauteng residents to comment and ask questions, which is a requirement of one of the Legislature’s mandates, i.e., creating opportunities for public participation in legislative processes.

Different Committees will sit with individual departments and scrutinize their budgets and plans, asking critical questions to justify allocated funds.

Budget scrutiny is one among many instruments used by Committees to test department budgets and spending for alignment to Gauteng’s service delivery masterplan announced by Premier Panyaza Lesufi in his 2023 State of the Province Address (SOPA).

Media is invited to cover the public meetings on their respective sectors of reporting. Please see attachment for more information.

All documents and programmes for the various committee public meetings are available on the GPL website on https://www.gpl.gov.za/public-hearings-budget-vote-process/

Members of the media who wish to attend in person at the various venues and for interview queries can contact the respective committee communications officers as per above table.
