Five convicted for dealing in cannabis

NORTHERN CAPE - On 25 April 2019, The Calvinia Magistrates' Court convicted five male suspects for dealing in cannabis. The five aged between 25 and 48 were arrested separately in 2016 during an intelligence driven operation that was conducted in Calvinia in a quest to eradicate drugs in that area. During the time of the arrests, cannabis and tik estimated to R6000-00 was confiscated.

The accused were sentenced as follows;

-Manus Petrus Galant was found guilty on six charges of dealing in cannabis and sentenced to 13 years direct imprisonment.

-Gerrit Muller was found guilty on four charges of dealing in cannabis and sentenced to eight years direct imprisonment.

-Clinton Kastoor was found guilty on five charges of dealing in cannabis and sentenced to ten years direct imprisonment.

-Jonathan Snyders was found guilty on three charges of dealing in cannabis and sentenced to six years direct imprisonment.

-Lionel Hendricks was found guilty on one charge of dealing in cannabis and was sentenced to two years direct imprisonment.

The community together with the SAPS management welcomed the sentences and applauded the investigating Officer, Captain Karel Coetzee Du Toit for the meticulous investigation.
