Firearms recovered, two suspects arrested in Manenberg and Philippi East

WESTERN CAPE - Police operations continue to result in the desired successes in the Nyanga Cluster.

Two suspects were arrested today for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and dagga as well as a dangerous weapon in Manenberg and Philippi East. During a joint operation conducted by members of Metro Police and Manenberg SAPS a 37-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition in Manenebrg. The members were on duty at about 05:35 conducting crime prevention duties when they saw people standing in Ascension Road in Heideveld, they stopped and searched the people and recovered a firearm with seven rounds on one of the people. The suspect was arrested and detained in Manenberg police station.

Meanwhile a 33-year-old suspect was also arrested this morning at about 07:10 for possession of a Star 9mm with two rounds, 56 parcels of dagga and a dangerous weapon. Members attached to Public Order Policing arrested the suspect while on patrol in Marikana Informal Settlement in Philippi East.

Members were applauded for their efforts in ensuring that they root out illegal firearms in the Nyanga Cluster.
