Exercise launched to clean up Rivers areas

ABUJA: THE Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has commissioned a waste management intervention programme at Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of the State. Speaking during the commissioning, the Administrator of the agency, Felix Obuah, said the programme was necessitated by the urgent need to save the region from the threat of ravaging filth and improve the health of the people.

He regretted that ONELGA had over some months been overtaken by waste and dirt and exposing people to impending epidemic occasioned by the worsening sanitary situation. He enjoined women, who constitute the programme, not to be deterred by alleged ploys and criminal negligence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area.

Obuah instead urged them to put in their best to restore sanity to ONELGA by clearing all nooks and crannies of the area of dirt and waste. "Unlike the APC will not relax while the local government area is overrun by dirt and will do everything humanly possible without hesitation to save the lives of the people from waste-associated diseases and keep the area and indeed, all the parts of the state clean," Obuah said.
