Pretoria: President Cyril Ramaphosa has offered his condolences to the government and nation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following the passing of the West African nation’s former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to South African Government News Agency, Buhari passed away at a London clinic at the age of 82. President Ramaphosa expressed solidarity with Nigeria, highlighting Buhari’s dedication as a leader and his contributions to the country’s future.
President Ramaphosa also reflected on his collaboration with Buhari, emphasizing their joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. He mentioned their work on various reciprocal visits, including those during the COVID-19 pandemic. These engagements focused on enhancing cooperation in areas such as arts and culture, education, agriculture, trade and investment, mining, defence, immigration, and science and technology.
President Ramaphosa noted that Buhari’s leadership played a significant role in bringing South Africa and Nigeria closer together, contributing to Africa’s collective growth and development. He affirmed that this is a legacy upon which future collaboration will build.
