Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements Paul Mashatile has expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the four people who died during a house fire in Sebokeng.
The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in Sebokeng Zone 14.
The emergency personnel and firefighters, who responded to the incident, found the house fully engulfed in fire. Three family members died inside the burning house.
A baby, who was rescued from the burning house and rushed to a nearby hospital, succumbed to his wounds and passed away on Sunday.
"It is somewhat incomprehensible to see an entire family with a little baby dying in such horrific circumstances. Our hearts go out to their loved ones," said MEC Mashatile.
Government officials from Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Emfuleni Municipality and a delegation of politicians visited the remaining relatives on Monday to assess the conditions as well as to establish what assistance is needed.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established. The case was handed over to the police for investigation.
